Bookcases aren’t exactly the most fun furniture pieces to shop for. For the most part, they are pretty conventional – two sides, two bottoms, and however many number of shelves. So, I’m delighted when I can find unique, funky cases that take the blah out of typical book storage.
Corner pieces are always a nice fixture because some spaces are just that tiny and every inch of space that can be utilized needs to be.
I liked the look of these tiered, corner shelves. The wood finishes look very brilliant and glossy and the shape is a bit atypical with it tapering towards to the top.

5-Tier Wooden Corner Bookshelf
(under $100)
Here are two cases capturing the museum display/sitting room feel. They also have a unique structure to them with the more contemporary version being available in three finishes. These probably wouldn’t house a ton of books, but I like that there is a bottom shelf that could be used for decorative display or additional storage with baskets/storage boxes.

Contemporary X-Cross Design Bookshelf
(under $100)
This bookcase was marked as being country-style and although I’m not usually a fan of this type of decor, I still thought this piece looked rather nice.

Ladder-style shelves are always fun – here is a piece in an antique black finish for under $120. It offers fier-tier’s worth of book storage/decorative display.

5-Tier Antique Black Ladder Shelf
I don’t see this piece offering tons of book storage, but it’s certainly a head-turner and has a fun name as well. This is easily one my favorites.

Coffee Bean Display Cabinet/Bookcase (under $120)
Larger Version of Cofee Bean Bookcase

This is probably more for multimedia storage in the form of CDs, DVDs, and etc, but I thought I would include it because it seemed like a pretty unique piece that is adjustable to suit particular storage needs.

Adjustable Media Storage Cabinet
This is probably one of the most unique bookcases I’ve seen – it would likely make an intriguing addition to any room. It’s a little bit pricier than the previous items, but I think for the look alone, I would purchase it to jazz up book storage.

Five-Tier Antique Black Bookshelf/Display Cabinet
(under $160)
This piece is a little higher in price range than the first few cases, but it does have the bonus of a 2 pull-out drawers below. I also like the criss-cross design to the side panels.
