Product Review: Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

I was really intrigued by the advertisements for this new cleaning product. It made cleaning multiple surfaces ranging from grimey car tire rims to glass cooktops look so effortless – almost to the point that I felt a bit skeptical about it.
When opening the box initially, I was a little surprised to find that it was a sturdy sponge-like item almost reminiscent of memory foam. For some reason, I was expecting some sort of rubbery type item working similarly to windshield wipers.
I haven’t really tried it all around the house as illustrated from the commercial, but it has done a fine cleaning job in the bathroom. I think the eraser I was using was the original version and was meant to be used alone with just water. I sprayed down my glass shower doors with some spray cleaner for extra cleaning power, however. It did great with the soap scum build-up common on this type of surface and provided decent scrubbing capability without being abrasive. While cleaning the metal grooves in the door’s track, the sponge did get snagged and some of the sponge parts shredded off. For this reason, I would probably give the product a 4/5 stars.
I see that there is another version of the eraser that foams up when exposed to water and contains a Febreze freshener and cleaner.
Overall, I think the product is ingenious especially for the fact that it won’t scratch and damage delicate surfaces. A lot of the reviewers have mentioned that it is excellent for cleaning tile grout. I will definitely try it for this application next as dirty grout is definitely unsightly.
